The Shamballa Letter

VOLUME 16, Number 48                                                                                                  December 2, 1994

Beloved Students,

I would like to share with you an experience which proved particularly helpful to me when I walked the Earth just as you do now. Like you, my consciousness and understanding has been built upon the shifting sands of personal experience.

During my time upon the Earth, I was given the loving assistance of many great teachers, each of whom shared the fruits of their consciousness with me. For their gifts I AM eternally grateful. During one memorable period, I was under the direct tutelage of Masters Morya and Kuthumi. By their example, these two great souls, so very different in manner, yet so alike in the depth and breadth of their love and understanding led me through the phase of my life which immediately preceded my ascension.

One day, Morya and I were walking beside a stream in the mountains of Tibet, when he asked me a question: "My brother, what is the purpose of life?" I was silent for a time, pondering the magnitude of such a question. Then I answered Morya's question with one of my own: "Does not life create its own purpose by virtue of its being?"

Morya smiled for a moment, and then restated his question: "What, then, is the purpose of your life?" For that I had no immediate answer. In response to my silence, Morya stopped walking and sat by the stream. From the pocket of his robe, he removed a piece of parchment and a small reading glass. Placing the parchment on the ground in front of him, Morya caught the sunlight in the glass, concentrating it onto the parchment. In a very few moments, the parchment was aflame. He then said: "Focus is the key, my beloved brother!" "What is the focus of your life?"

Finding the answer to this question - the focus of my life - became a quest. It became the crucible of my existence, the test against which, even today, I measure my every thought, word, action and reaction.

Beloved chelas, as I enfold you in my love and understanding, I pose this same question to you. What is the focus of your life?

At this very moment, in the world of form, you are surrounded by many great teachers. Your daily challenge is to recognize them, and the gifts they bring to you. Yet, the most priceless gift - the 'pearl of great price' - can be given to you only by the master teacher who lives within. I speak, of course, of your own Holy Christ Self!

As you proceed further on your quest, know that I shall keep watch with you, enfolding you always in my love. May you continue to follow the prompting of your heart, listening in humble silence, for only then will the focus of your life become clear to you.

Dwjal Khul
